Southern Baptists responding to Earthquake in Haiti

Update February 10, 2010
Southern Baptists are responding to this mass destruction with compassion and action.

Praying as we prepare
We continue to ask you to intercede for the people of Haiti, families and friends of those who are here in country, and for those there now ministering, helping, and serving the victims. We continue to hear of some being rescued from the mountains of rubble of collapsed buildings.

Here is what we know:

Assessment: Teams of four are needed to do Chaplaincy and building damage assessment. We now have teams working with the Haitian churches and offering hope to the victims.

Medical teams If you are in the medical profession and would like to be a part of a medical team from West Virginia that would be willing to go, or if you would be willing to join a team from another State convention, please contact your State Disaster Relief Director, Delton Beall at the WVCSB state office (304.757.0944).

Memorial Service: Join with the Haitian Churches this Sunday in a memorial Service praying with and for the people of this devastated nation. The Baptist Churches in Haiti will be having memorial services this weekend and we have been asked to join them in praying for them as we gather for worship this weekend February 14, 2010.

Buckets of Hope

Feeding the People of Haiti one Family at a Time

We are now in the process of asking you and your church to work in putting together Bucket of Hope buckets.

A “Bucket of Hope” consists of a plastic five-gallon bucket packed with selected foodstuffs. For approximately $30 anyone can purchase the materials and assemble a "Bucket of Hope." The food contained in a single bucket will feed a Haitian family for a week. You are also requested to include a $10 cash contribution, placed in an envelope and attached to the lid of the bucket, to offset the cost of transporting the relief buckets to Haiti.
Go to www.namb.net/bucketsofhope for instructions on how to pack the bucket.
Please follow the detailed instructions carefully. This will ensure that every bucket quickly passes through customs and into the hands of the Haitian people.

For instructions about what to purchase and how to assemble a "Bucket of Hope" download and print out the pdf file with the instructions.

You and your church can start today. We will be forwarding instructions on how the buckets will be collected. Watch this web page for the details

YOU MUST FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS EXACTLY, PLEASE!

Give an Offering

All funds given through Southern Baptists go to ministering to the needs of the people.

You can have your churches to receive and send donations of money to your West Virginia Convention of Southern Baptists State Office, Number One Mission Way, Scott Depot, WV 25560.

100% of these funds will go to the Haiti DR!

Willing to go? Here is how to prepare.

Contact your State office at Number One Mission Way, Scott Depot, WV 25560, 304.757.0944 or your Associational Missionary/Disaster Relief Director and let them know you are willing to go. We know that we will be involved in long term recovery, and we can begin to prepare ourselves.

You will need to be credentialed /trained in Southern Baptist Disaster Relief along with having other specific equipping as to the type of recovery we will be involved in.

Also, you will need to have your Passport in order, meet other government requirements that may be required, and have your medical up to date.

Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Training events are being held at various locations within your association. Check with your Associational Missionary for those dates.
Pray for the people who are victims and those who are there now seeking to help. Pray for wisdom as we seek to know how to most effectively care for those in need. Pray that hope of the Gospel might be shared and received. And continue to PRAY.
